Support for Communities

Continuing to create opportunities for the formerly incarcerated to reacclimate to society is paramount to my current and future work as a candidate for the First Ward City Council. Recognizing the challenges faced by individuals returning from incarceration, I am committed to implementing initiatives that facilitate their successful reintegration into our community. Access to affordable housing, employment opportunities, financial assistance, and mental health services is crucial in reducing recidivism rates and promoting public safety. By partnering with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies, I will advocate for programs that provide comprehensive support to the formerly incarcerated, helping them secure stable housing, gainful employment, and the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

In addition to supporting the formerly incarcerated, I recognize the importance of assisting our fixed-income elders in maintaining their homes and quality of life. Many seniors in the First Ward face financial challenges that make it difficult to afford necessary home repairs and improvements. As a city council representative, I will prioritize initiatives that provide support for home improvement opportunities, such as roof, porch, and window replacements. By partnering with community organizations and leveraging available resources, we can ensure that our elders can age in place safely and with dignity.

Furthermore, creating opportunities for growth and success through increased job opportunities and city-sponsored diversion programs is essential for building a stronger and more resilient First Ward. By investing in workforce development initiatives, vocational training programs, and job placement services, we can empower residents to secure stable employment and achieve economic independence. Additionally, diversion programs offer an alternative to incarceration for non-violent offenders, providing them with the opportunity to address underlying issues, such as substance abuse or mental health disorders, while avoiding the cycle of incarceration. As a city council candidate, I am committed to advocating for these programs and working collaboratively with community stakeholders to ensure that all residents have the support they need to thrive.
